Stomping Ground LA Meets Community Outreach Team
Click Bond Team Volunteers to Build New Art Center
On February 29, seven members from the Community Outreach Team in Carson City traveled to Los Angeles to take part in a two-day community-building activity for a new community arts center I founded in East LA called Stomping Ground LA. When complete, the center will host classes, workshops, and performances for people of all ages to be inspired by the arts.
A focal point of the new center is the 2,000-square-foot “sprung” floor. Floated with foam and shock-absorbent materials, it is designed to be gentle on joints during dance and fitness classes. The purchase and installation costs for a floor of this size would typically be around $50,000. But thanks to help from community members and partners in building the floor; lower-cost materials assembled from local vendors like Home Depot and foam suppliers; and secured donations of labor, we saw exceptional cost savings that will go back into the center to enhance its offerings of low- and no-cost classes that enable more community engagement in the arts.
The build event demonstrated the exceptional warmth and care of both the LA arts community and the Click Bond COT, who stepped up to the challenge and created something truly amazing together in just two days! I am truly grateful that I was able to be among the team who brought this all together.”
