Click Bond and the Reno High Sierra 99s would like to congratulate the 2022 winner of the Discover Aviation Scholarship!
Did you know that only 9% of today’s pilots are women? Click Bond was built out of a passion for aviation, and it’s part of our DNA to inspire the next generation to take flight. It was this spirit, and a desire to attract more females to aviation, that led to the creation of this scholarship.
Offered to female pilots or student pilots ages 16 and up who reside within a 99 nautical mile radius of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, the Discover Aviation Scholarship is a partnership between Click Bond and the RHS 99s, a local organization for female aviators, to provide financial assistance to help jump start the recipient’s aviation education toward their private pilot license. This scholarship, worth up to $1,000, aims to help the recipient to start on this journey in the hope she will continue to reach all her aviation goals.
Candidates must submit applications, in which they respond to several essay questions, submit a budget, and provide letters of recommendation. They then must participate in interviews with a panel of judges. Interviews were held on November 5, and Elizabeth Collins, RHS 99s Scholarship Committee Chairperson, reported that the quality of the applicants made for some very difficult decisions by the judges.
Ultimately, Natasha (“Tasha”) Thomas, a Reno resident, wife, mother, and very enthusiastic future aviator, was selected to be the 2022 recipient. Her goal is to get her private pilot license and, eventually, a Certified Flight Instructor license so that she can teach in this area.
“I feel honored and so appreciative to have been selected,” Tasha said. “I love to adventure the great outdoors as much as possible, and aviation has given me the opportunity to do just that, in the most breathtaking way! The adrenaline rush I feel when I am in control of the aircraft is unlike anything I have ever experienced. It is also one of the most empowering things I have done as a woman. This scholarship is allowing me the opportunity to learn and grow in this field, and I couldn’t be more thankful!”
