Conneticut Click Bonders Support Special Olympics at the MONZA World-Class Kart Race.
A team of Connecticut Click Bonders drove fundraising for Special Olympians in October … literally!
Kart Race 2019, held Oct. 26 at MONZA World-Class Karting at Foxwoods Resort Casino, was a benefit for Special Olympics Connecticut. At this exciting go-kart relay event, teams of racers were each paired with a Special Olympics athlete. Racers drive go-karts around a track, stopping at eight mandatory pit stops to change drivers throughout the three-hour race. Before the new driver could get behind the wheel, the team assisted the athlete in completing one of the eight challenges: putting puzzles together, sorting colored beads, playing corn hole, doing a ring toss, rolling doubles with dice, completing a word search, picking up candy with oven mitts, and everyone’s favorite, wrapping two rolls of toilet paper around a teammate!
The Click Bond team consisted of four Eyelet Toolmakers — myself, Jim Lafrance, Steve Santos, Mike Kluczinsky — and apprentice Kaitlyn Pierzanowski, who supported the team as part of the pit crew. Our team had the pleasure of working with Special Olympian Aaron Newton of Norwich, Connecticut.
The Click Bond team placed 7th out of 14 teams, and each of the Special Olympians received a medal for the event.
Even more importantly, every Click Bonder who participated enjoyed this fantastic experience! It was great to work hand-in-hand with an athlete from Special Olympics to help complete his challenges as he helped us complete the race! We all worked exceptionally well as a team and were thrilled to contribute to such a wonderful organization. Thanks to all Click Bonders who participated or supported us throughout this event!
